[h1_heading]Clocking cards and time attendance with bio-metrics[/h1_heading]
We were recently approached by a customer asking if we knew anything about time attendance systems. One of our team members made it known that he had a little experience with time attendance systems used at a small London event a few years ago called the Olympic Games. Cue much fascination and even more reading of technical documentation until ultimately we installed a few of these….
It seems times have changed. The punch cards and swipe cards are long gone and have been replaced with the modern phenomenon of bio-metric scanning, namely fingerprints. No longer will the ‘I forgot my swipe card’ excuse be acceptable, and unless someone has a sharp knife, buddy clocking is also eliminated. Our customer was overjoyed, but there’s more to it than that.

The device has a couple of tricks up it sleeve. Firstly, you can’t see the USB charger powering the device (easily available, reliable etc), nor can you see the Li-ion battery that keeps it alive even if there is a power cut (another excuse eliminated). However, the smartest bit is that it’s connected into the corporate network. Not just locally, but on the internet as well. Using secure VPN connections, these humble little clocking machines are able to communicate en masse to head office, relaying all the clocking data back. All the in’s and out’s are tallied, along with the breaks, combined with the HR information in the controlling software to pretty much run payroll themselves.
We learned a lot from this one, and are happy to have done so. Bio-metrics are the future of time attendance management, and Village Technology are happy to help you take control of time attendance with free installation currently available within the Cardiff / South Wales area.
